Geographic Permit Management and Compliance

The Villages Geographic Permit Management and Compliance web site

Location: Florida
Client: The Villages of Lake County

PBS&J provided a series of web-enabled applications to support development activities in The Villages in Lake County, Florida, one of the nation's fastest growing active adult communities. With nearly 3,000 housing starts per year, The Villages wanted to use technology to more efficiently manage certain aspects of their business practices. PBS&J delivered its web-based Geographic Permit Management and Compliance System (GPMACS). These applications are fully integrated with The Villages network infrastructure allowing various levels of system access to view, query and update data.

The most unique aspect of these systems is the incorporation of mapping technologies to provide a spatial representation of compliance needs and regulatory constraints. Users are able to perform simple queries for requirement forecasts and easily update the database through online forms. All database entry is controlled through the use of required fields, drop-down menus and data validation routines to ensure consistency and quality within the system.

In establishing the GPMACS, PBS&J also gathered and converted all CAD-based development files to industry standard GIS formats and georeferenced these files to available aerial photography. The spatial data provided all of the base map data necessary to prepare a familiar interface for the end user. GPMACS users can quickly visualize the proximity of environmental constraints to roadways and parcels as well as perform planning activity related to project build-out.
