PBS&J has held general environmental services agreements with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for approximately 20 years. The projects covered under these contracts have included biological, water and sediment collections and surveys in fresh, estuarine and marine habitats; the preparation of NEPA documents or NEPA-type analysis; the study of hazardous materials; and special services, which includes a range of items from subcontractor management to production of digital presentations for USACE use.
The environmental toxicology laboratory has played a key role in these projects by providing biomonitoring support for dredged materials characterization studies required for discharge of dredged materials in waters of the U.S. (including beneficial uses). PBS&J performs suspended particulate (water column), solid phase toxicity, and bioaccumulation studies with a variety of organisms for both freshwater and marine systems. The PBS&J environmental toxicology laboratory is one of only a few laboratories accredited by the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference to conduct these tests with the appropriate species as required by EPA-503/8-91/001 and EPA-823-B-96-004.
