Geospatial Time Series Data Management
for Water Managers
The amount and types of water data have grown exponentially over the years due to SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems; the USGS nationwide water resource data collection stations; and other water quality, hydrologic, and hydraulic data sources. Water managers have been challenged to use all of the data in a cohesive manner because the varying measurement parameters, collection time intervals, and units were not compatible. Until now, that is.
PBS&J’s innovative Geospatial Time Series Management (GTSM) Toolbox seamlessly integrates with the Arc Hydro geodatabase to translate the vast amounts of available data into the right units and right format to operate within a GIS framework, providing a unified spatially-driven resource. Using a simple point-and-click process, reams of data are converted into usable information that is made readily available to support analysis and decision-making.
Whether the goal is to maximize the availability of limited water resources or prepare for natural disasters, such as floods, droughts, hurricanes, earthquakes, and tornadoes, PBS&J’s GTSM Toolbox significantly improves the water manager’s ability to make sound management decisions based on solid operational and scientific data.

What PBS&J Offers
PBS&J offers clients the experience of real-world applications of the GTSM concept for Enterprise Resource Management in the water industry. Our relational database environment links water bodies, control structures, monitoring points, and drainage basins. Spatial data are linked to time-series data within the GIS framework for use in setting water budgets, system status and projections, water quality analysis, and adaptive management.
In real time, an agency can easily manage data that changes over time and space, such as water levels in a reservoir, flows through a pipe, or rainfall quantities in a combined sewer overflow. Systems can be calibrated, and water movement can be traced and predicted with greater accuracy. This enables water managers to better assess water budgets for a given area or predict short- and long-term water storage requirements.
