Electric Transmission Routing

Electric transmission lines are the backbone of our nation’s electrical system.
Deregulation of the electric market and electric load growth in certain areas of the U.S. have lead to situations where the time required to plan, site, gain regulatory approval, and construct new transmission facilities has become critical to the delivery of reliable electric power to customers. The preparation of a thorough and comprehensive alternative routing analysis and environmental assessment document, coupled with a sound public participation program, provides the best support and defense for gaining approvals for a new transmission facility.

For more than 25 years, PBS&J has been assisting public and private electric utilities with the siting and permitting of electric transmission lines and substations. These utility clients have included investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities, electric cooperatives, independent power producers, and regional power authorities. PBS&J has successfully completed hundreds of projects in various states with line lengths exceeding 200 miles and voltages ranging from 69-kV to 500-kV. We maintain a large, permanent, and experienced staff of engineers, planners, ecologists, archaeologists, historians, socioeconomists, and routing/permitting experts to fully support project and schedule requirements.
