Coastal Resource Management
Healthy coastal ecosystems make good economic and environmental sense. Estuaries, wetlands, and coral reefs are important breeding grounds and habitats for commercially, recreationally, and ecologically valuable wildlife. Dunes, sea grasses, and reefs can help protect shoreline property from wave and storm damage. Attractive beaches and abundant wildlife attract tourists and enhance the quality of life for residents.
PBS&J’s coastal experts work to restore, protect, and responsibly develop coastal resources in accordance with today’s complex federal, state and local laws for public and private clients. As a recognized leader in coastal resources management, we offer comprehensive services and a depth of broad-range experience that is applicable across the nation and in the Caribbean.
Resource Assessment
PBS&J provides field assessment services to inventory, catalog, characterize, and quantify coastal resources. Our state-of-theart system modeling capabilities support functional assessments, natural resource damage assessments, and water quality determinations.
PBS&J environmental scientists have a long, successful history of predicting and assessing ecological risks and environmental impacts to coastal ecosystems that result from natural events and human activities.
Restoration
When resource restoration is the goal, we can assess conditions and design the restoration effort, provide construction/installation oversight, and monitor performance and efficacy. PBS&J’s skilled professionals complete permit applications, negotiate with regulatory personnel, and represent the client to expedite the permitting process.
Responsible Management
We focus on long-term, ecologically sound management, maintenance, and enhancement in managing coastal resources. We provide easy-to-use and flexible database management tools that may be integrated with GIS-based, permit tracking systems and Internet-based applications. PBS&J also offers specialized capabilities in project-specific web site design and web site hosting services in support of public information programs and project team collaboration.
