PBS&J Receives Award for Work on
Tampa's I-4/I-275 Downtown Interchange

Tampa, FL – On Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at a ceremony in Chicago to conclude the 2007 national conference of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), PBS&J received one of CMAA’s 12 “Project Achievement Awards” for work on the I-4/I-275 Downtown Tampa Interchange Operational and Safety Improvements project. The awards were presented as part of CMAA’s industry recognition dinner. The winning projects, which ranged in cost from less than $10 million to more than $100 million and in discipline from a community branch library to a major enhancement of one of America’s busiest highways, were selected by an expert jury from among 75 nominees submitted to CMAA earlier in the year.

PBS&J’s role on the $83 million roadway improvements project for Florida Department of Transportation District Seven involved providing construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services. The project’s four years of construction included the addition of new ramps to funnel downtown traffic off the two mainlines and eliminate operational weaving problems. In addition, 26 bridges within the project limits were widened or replaced, including a new three-level seven-span continuous curved steel girder flyover structure to carry southbound I-275 traffic to eastbound I-4.

PBS&J’s work on the project was recognized earlier this year with a “Consultant of the Year” award from the West Coast Chapter of the APWA (American Public Works Association); the project has also been nominated for APWA’s 2007 National Public Works Project of the Year award.

CMAA has been presenting its Project Achievement Awards since 1999, recognizing instances in which professional construction or program management has made a significant contribution to the successful completion of a challenging project or program.
