The PBS&J Minority Engineering Scholarship Program was created for African-American students who are enrolled in university-level civil and environmental engineering programs. Scholarships are awarded to qualified students attending designated universities in California, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Maryland, and Texas.

Upon meeting the program criteria, scholarship recipients are selected through a competitive process—only one student from each university can be awarded the scholarship each year. A local selection committee, composed of PBS&J technical management and human resources personnel, chooses the recipient.

Half of the $4,000 scholarship is awarded for tuition during the fall semester and the remaining half for the spring semester. All scholarship funds are paid directly toward the student’s tuition. Since the program’s establishment in 1993, PBS&J has awarded more than 130 scholarships.

“We recognize our responsibility as one of the nation’s leading engineering firms to encourage and support the next generation of engineering professionals. We also believe that it is important for the engineering profession to reflect the diversity of our nation,” says Judith A. Squillante, PBS&J Executive Vice President and Director of Human Resources. “Our Minority Scholarship Program serves both of these objectives.”

Scholarship recipients may also be offered summer internships or full-time work upon graduation. For more information about PBS&J’s Minority Engineering Scholarship Program, contact us at Opportunity@pbsj.com
