Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) |
In 1995, the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) was established as an independent agency of the state of Florida to oversee the maintenance, operations, and expansion of the four existing toll facilities in Miami-Dade County. The MDX system includes SR 112, SR 874, SR 836, SR 924, and the untolled facility, SR 878, with total annual toll revenues of approximately $20 million.
To augment its staff and aid in the development and administration of system improvements, the MDX retained Dade Transportation Consultants, a joint venture led by PBS&J, to serve as its general engineering consultant (GEC). Operating as an extension of the MDX staff, PBS&J and its two JV partners provide assistance with all aspects of financing, work program development, toll operations, engineering design, and project implementation.
As the GEC, PBS&J is spearheading implementation of the $900-million, five-year work program and long-range transportation plans. PBS&J also participated in toll system integration pre-selection efforts, early deployment, and system testing (including interoperability with other Florida toll agencies) as part of the effort of converting the existing toll collection system to a new generation toll collection system, which will ultimately support violation enforcement and automated maintenance notification.
