WaterColor

Pedestrian bridge over a stormwater management facility.

Location: Walton County, Florida
Client: The St. Joe Company

WaterColor is a 499-acre southern coastal resort and residential community in Northwest Florida, directly on the Gulf of Mexico, on land held by The St. Joe Company since 1927. The community includes a mix of single-family and multi-family residences; commercial, office, and retail development; and recreational facilities. The project master plan complements Seaside and the nearby community of Seagrove Beach by creating a spacious community with an emphasis on natural environmental features. The community relationship is further enhanced through pedestrian friendly planning of multi-purpose recreational trails allowing convenient access to office/retail areas and the local beaches of South Walton County, combined with off-street parking minimizing congestion throughout the development. The recreational facilities are strategically located to accent the natural physical amenities of the site, and serve as neighborhood and community focal points.

PBS&J has provided extensive planning, site and civil engineering, infrastructure design, and construction engineering and inspection services for the WaterColor community since its concept and inception. Early efforts included the Development of Regional Impact (DRI) application and a habitat conservation plan for threatened or endangered species. PBS&J provided planning and design services for custom roadways, and vehicular and pedestrian bridges. Construction phase services included on-site coordination between the master planner, architects, contractors, owner, and construction inspection services. Throughout the project, PBS&J assisted with coordination of public meetings to keep the local community informed as to the plans and status of the project.
