The Mall of Georgia is the second largest mall in the southeast, occupying 2.2 million square feet on 180 acres of a total 550-acre tract. Located in the northeasterly quadrant of the I-85/S.R. 20 interchange in Gwinnett County, Georgia, this $300-million regional mall/community center was designed to be more of a tourist destination, incorporating a traditional mall setting with other components. A 140,000-square-foot village outside the entrance recreates the feeling of an old-fashioned Georgia town square, complete with an interactive fountain, a 500-seat amphitheater for outdoor concerts and gatherings, and pedestrian-styled streetscape. Located across from the village is an 80-acre nature park that includes an interpretive nature center and more than two miles of nature trails, pathways, and bridges through preserved Georgia wetlands.
PBS&J provided comprehensive site engineering and infrastructure design services for this major development. The design featured over 4 million cubic yards of earthwork, 700,000 cubic yards of rock excavation, the creation of the 80-acre nature park, the relocation of S.R. 20, the extension of S.R. 324 to S.R. 20, and the development of 3,000 linear feet of a new 5-lane roadway.
