The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Jacksonville District, is responsible for managing the worlds largest and most unique environmental ecosystem restoration project the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Program (CERP). The project encompasses more than 18,000 square miles, includes 68 components, and with an estimated cost of $7.8 billion, will take more than 30 years to construct. The complex restoration includes ecological rejuvenation, water storage and wastewater reuse, flood control, and recreation, among other objectives. The project, managed in partnership with the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), involves coordination and integration of an extensive list of stakeholders, and biannual reports to Congress and the American public on the progress of the restoration.
In a joint venture named the Everglades Partners Joint Venture (EPJV), PBS&J was selected by the USACE to provide program management support under an indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity contract with a three-year ordering period and four three-year renewal options. The EPJV serves as an extension of the USACE staff, providing resources and expertise to assure that all project goals are met. One of the main goals of the EPJV is to develop common understandings, consensus approaches, and a solid, trusted, long-term collaboration. The success of the restoration project will be achieved through EPJVs use of proven program management processes enhanced by innovative state-of-the art information technology, diverse staff resources, and a record of exceeding small business initiatives.
