Clearwater Beach Walk

Conceptual design for BeachWalk promenade.

Clearwater Beach, a world-class beach destination, is located in Pinellas County along the west coast of Florida. This project called for conceptual planning and urban design for the six-block-long section of Gulfview Boulevard.

Orginally outlined in a study called "Beach by Design," PBS&J furthered the initial planning study through the facilitation of a series of extensive public charrettes, each focusing on creating an overall image and theme for the entire study area.

The plan called for the realignment of Gulfview Boulevard to provide for a pedestrian-friendly environment, which included a curvilinear promenade that meanders adjacent to hotels, shops, and restaurants with outdoor seating areas. Large urban plaza public gathering areas with public art, interactive water features, a 20-foot-wide hike/bike trail to connect to the Pinellas County trail system, and lush landscaping now enhance this already world-class beach

The planning process was so visible that it acted as an economic stimulator before the project was scheduled to begin construction in the summer of 2005.
