PBS&J serves the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) as statewide intelligent transportation systems (ITS) general consultant to provide services related to the planning, architecture and standards development, and integration of ITS. PBS&J provides a wide range of engineering and planning services, including technical, management, and administrative tasks for FDOTs ITS Office. Specific services provided include ITS program planning and master planning, architecture, system engineering management planning, standards, deployment, integration, operations, maintenance, telecommunications, mainstreaming activities, and Rule 90 implementation.
PBS&J also develops design criteria packages for ITS deployment and integration for the 2,105 miles of limited-access corridors in Florida, with funding of more than $700 million. Major initiatives include coordinated operations for all modes, active facilities management, and information-sharing in the form of central data warehousing and advanced traveler information systems. In order to ensure that the project meets the needs of local transportation users and is integrated into the transportation planning process for metropolitan planning organizations and local governments, PBS&J works closely with all FDOT District ITS personnel and other stakeholders. The ultimate goal is to develop a communications backbone by providing architecture and standards for connections to FDOTs fiber-optic network and microwave communication backbone. Additional services provided include conceptual engineering, design-build criteria, and system integration for traffic management centers.
