5th Runway Site Preparation -- Phase II
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta
International Airport

PBS&J designed Phase II of the site preparation for Runway 10-28, a full parallel taxiway, and connecting taxiways on the east side of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Client: City of Atlanta, Department of Aviation

PBS&J provided engineering services and prepared construction documents for a new 5th runway at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The $110-million runway project involved grading and drainage of a 3,000-foot segment of the proposed 9,000-foot Runway 10/28, the parallel Taxiway “U," and the dual parallel connector Taxiways “W” and “Z." PBS&J also prepared construction documents for an earthwork embankment for a new aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) station located at the intersection of Taxiways “U” and “Z;" and for the non-licensed vehicle (NLVR) tunnel under the dual parallel connector taxiways.

Site preparation services provided by PBS&J included surveying and mapping, geotechnical investigations, a hydrology study, demolition of existing facilities and utilities within the footprint of the project limits, including portions of Sullivan Road, Airport Loop Road, and South Perimeter Road, and grading for the runway’s navigation aids (NAVAIDS).
