The Emerging Face of Management Solutions

PBS&J Highlights Focus

Not all that long ago, it was enough to know that our organizations were investing in technology, because even the most basic systems could bring greater efficiency to the way we did business. Then as technology in the workplace became as ubiquitous as the desktop stapler, we began demanding more from our systems, setting high expectations for the “solutions in a box” touted by their manufacturers as the answer to our management problems.

Today, the “face” of management solutions is looking more human than technological, as we recognize that it is our own understanding of the nature of our business, how our organization functions, and how we apply technology that brings the real value.

This is the focus of our current issue of PBS&J Highlights, and our article, Technology Plus, provides an overview of what management solutions are all about from PBS&J’s perspective.

New Tools of the Trade looks at project/program management tools that help managers sort through the reams of data to find meaningful information.

Management solutions are not just about technology, as we show in our Expert’s View column. Public-Private Partnerships, Help or Hype? features the thoughts of Stephen T. Graham from the San Antonio River Authority and Daniel Harper of Southampton Properties, Inc., about one of the hottest topics among agencies looking for ways to meet increasing demands with limited resources.

Is there a Recipe for Success for organizations committed to continuous improvement? In this article, PBS&J Program Manager James “Bo” Sanchez describes the self-analysis Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise went through to address its performance and services as it embarks on the largest capital program in the organization’s history.

With the bottom line goal of “management solutions” being excellence, PBS&J Highlights spotlights the top winners in the company’s 2005 National Recognition Awards Program.

At PBS&J, we combine technology with knowledge and experience to bring management solutions to our clients. For more on this topic, please contact the folks you work with at PBS&J or e-mail PBS&J Highlights Editor Kathe Jackson at krjackson@pbsj.com.
